Work

I work as an IT Security Analyst for the University of Michigan Health regional network, part of Michigan Medicine. My career obsession is preparing the organization for the needs of the future, which is why I recently got my ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity certification and I'm studying for the Systems Security Certified Practitioner certification.

I'm still active with the mentorship program at work too, with a new mentor relationship and new mentee relationship this year. I love to go through books with mentors and mentees, and this year I'm working through Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara and a re-read of Atomic Habits by James Clear.

Health

I've been tumor free for about a year and a half now. All the peer-reviewed studies I can get my hands on point towards low-to-no chance of recurrence for my kind of tumor. The damage done by the tumors to my endocrine systems appears to be permanent.

Life

I read Atomic Habits with a mentee last year too, and it really reshaped how I think about what I want my life to look like. I've implemented no-zero-days habits in reading and language learning through that reshaping. My Duolingo streak hit 500 days today, and I've also got a read-one-page streak going.

Other books I'm reading are Trust by Dr. Henry Cloud, Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, and Households of Faith by Emily Hunter McGowin.

Technology

My home-network/home-lab is currently stable, with a small Unifi network and a server blade running Proxmox and some quality-of-life VMs. I'd like to get a VM or container of Monica the personal CRM spun up next, but my bigger priority has been spinning down the infrastructure from my last small business.

This website is another now for my technology usage - I'm trying to move into the static site generator space rather than stay in my Wordpress infrastructure habits that are a decade plus old at this point.

Music

I'm currently co-leading the worship ministry at a local church, which means I'm playing or singing or supporting other musicians on a weekly basis. I've got a mentee from the church youth group that I jam with about once a week. He's into the same kind of music I was at his age, and it's a delight to revisit artists and genres through his eyes.

My house currently has MAYHEM by Lady Gaga on repeat for the jams, and We Must Respond (Live) by Bethel Music and The King is Coming (Live) by Red Rocks Worship are the best worship albums of the year so far. (1350 by UPPERROOM might join this pack but it's a long album - 135 minutes.)
